Starters kit: Makeup Brushes

When it comes to doing your makeup properly one of the most important things is using the right brushes. Brushes make applying makeup so much easier and it make make your makeup look so much better. For those of you who are just starting off with makeup I am going to be showing you which brushes should definitely be in your collection. If you’re interested, keep on reading!

Before I start I do want to say that you don’t NEED to buy the brushes I am going to be showing you, it’s only a recommendation.

First off all the buffing brush. It’s definitely possible to apply your foundation using your hands, and if you don’t have much money or don’t care a lot about beauty I recommend you do it like that. But if you’re a real beauty lover I highly recommend getting a buffer brush. In my opinion the best and easiest way of applying your foundation is by using a buffer brush.

Buffer brushes are very dense brushes that will make sure your foundation will have the highest coverage possible. It gives you that flawless effect but doesn’t make your skin look cakey at all.

Besides that I also recommend getting a powder brush. If you don’t need foundation you can also just use powder. To apply that you will need a brush. In my opinion it doesn’t really matter which shape your powder brush is. You shouldn’t spend a lot of money on it because it doesn’t make that much of a difference. I do recommend buying one with soft hairs since that will make applying the powder feel better.

Some people use their powder brush for blush/bronzer as well, I do not recommend that. You can apply your bronzer with the same brush as your blush, but don’t apply your powder with it as well. If you do so you’ll eventually put a combination of blush, bronzer and powder all over your face which is probably not what you want.

If you want to use your blush brush for both your blush and your bronzer I would recommend getting an angled one like this because in my opinion that works best for both blush and bronzer. If you do have the money and want to invest in your makeup I do recommend getting a separate one for your bronzer.

For eyeshadow I recommend getting a normal eyeshadow brush. Preferably a fluffy one, but that’s not a must. I personally do like having multiple eyeshadow brushes because I use different eyeshadows everyday and I don’t want the colors to mix. But if you’re just starting off one is enough. If you don’t use eyeshadow you can obviously skip this.

I also recommend buying a more fluffly crease brush. This is a combination between a blending brush and an eyeshadow brush and it’s perfect for applying eyeshadow in your crease. I honestly can’t live without this brush. It’s super multifunctional. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend you could only buy this brush instead of a separate eyeshadow brush and blending brush because it is possible to apply everything with this. I don’t recommend it, but it is an option.

Lastly for eyeshadow I highly, highly recommend getting a blending brush. I think this is an absolute must have brush for anyone that uses eyeshadows. The only way to get your eyeshadows to look good is by blending them. If you don’t have a blending brush that will be hard. Therefore I highly recommend buying one. It will make your life so much easier and it will make your eyeshadows look so much better!

If you do have a little more money to spend or if you are willing to invest in makeup brushes here are three more brushes I would recommend!

First off all a bronzer brush. Bronzer brushes come in many shaped and sizes. You can use an angled brush to apply it, a smaller buffer brush like brush like the one on the picture or a paint brush look a like brush. I personally really like this face shape brush. The reason why I think it’s nice to have a separate bronzer brush is because I love using shimmery blush but when it comes to bronzer I prefer matte ones. If you use the same brush for both blush and bronzer the two will mix and you’ll be left with shimmer everywhere.

I also highly recommend getting a pencil brush.  A pencil brush is a smaller brush that is perfect for applying eyeshadows in your outer-V and your crease. I love using this one to apply darker eyeshadows. It’s also a lot more precise than the fluffy brush I showed before, but it’s a little less multifunctional.

Lastly I recommend getting a little angled brush like this one. This could be used for both eyebrows or eyeliner. I do recommend buying two if you want to use it for eyebrows and eyeliner because those two things just don’t mix. This is just an essential if you use powder to fill in your brows, but since most people who start with makeup don’t do their brows yet, it’s not a must.

Well, that was it. I hope this helped some of you out and let me know which brushes you think should be in anyone’s starters kit!
