Concealer is essential in my daily makeup routine. Especially under eye concealer. I have genetically dark circles and when I haven’t slept enough hours it’s even worse. Therefore concealer is a saviour for me and I love trying out different ones to find one that works perfectly for me. Today I’m going to review two: the Maybellin The Eraser concealer and the Alterra Concealer. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not they are worth your money, keep on reading!
Let’s start off with the Alterra concealer. This one doesn’t have any kind of fancy name. It’s just a concealer by Alterra. Alterra is a Rossmann exclusive brand, but pretty much every German store that sells makeup has a brand like this. It’s really similar to for example DM’s Alverde. The products from these brands are all natural and free from crappy ingredients, which is definitely a big plus.
The packaging is pretty basic. It’s just a clear tube with a shiny blue lid and silver text. The tube contains 5 ml of concealer and comes with a lipgloss applicator like applicator. The main reason why I bought it is because it’s extremely light. It comes in two colors. This one and an almost white one. I’m really pale so it’s hard to find any face makeup in my shade. Finding a concealer that’s a shade lighter than my skin tone is therefore almost impossible, so when I saw this I had to take it with me.
The texture of the concealer is pretty unique. It’s really thin and it smells like herbs. When you apply it underneath your eyes it gets a little tacky for some reason. I don’t really know why and whether it’s a positive or a negative thing. When it gets tacky you’ll be able to blend it into the skin and stuff, but it just feels a little weird. But on the other hand, because of it’s stickiness I do feel like it stays on the skin a lot longer than some other concealers.
When it comes to coverage I’m not completely convinced. It does cover up my under eye circles a bit -not completely but I don’t expect that from any concealer- but it just doesn’t really impress me. It does do a great job when it comes to highlighting that area because it’s this light, which is a good thing.
Over all I have mixed feelings when it comes to this concealer. It’s nice but I’m just not really impressed.
The Alterra Concealer is available at Rossmann for €2,49.
The Maybelline The Eraser concealer seems to be one of the most popular drugstore concealers ever. I was sceptical about it, which is why I never even considered buying it but because of all those positive reviews I had to give it at least a chance. The reason why I wasn’t really drawn to this concealer is because it comes with a sponge on top and I’m not a huge fan of that. But then again, the quality of the product is more important to me than the packaging.
Something I don’t like about this concealer is that there are only two shades available and the lightest shade isn’t really light. It’s a tiny bit too dark for me. If I blend it really well I am able to wear it without looking crazy, but it is something I feel like Maybelline should work on.
But when it comes to coverage I am in fact impressed by this concealer. It’s not as amazing as my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer, but it is a great second. It’s super easy to blend into the skin, the consistency is not too thick and it doesn’t look cakey. Besides that it also stays in place for quite a while. I wouldn’t say all day, but it definitely does survive a big part of the day!
Over all I think the Maybelline The Eraser concealer is a great concealer. I’m not extremely excited about it or anything and I don’t really get why it’s so extremely popular, but I would repurchase it if I ran out of it and I can’t get my hands on the Collection concealer.
The Maybelline The Eraser Concealer is available at DM Drogerie for €9,25 at at Feelunique for €11,27.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading this “duo review” and be sure to let me know which concealer is your number one favorite!
Nicely reviewed. But it’s bad that maybelline has only 2 shades
