About 4-5 years ago I started filling in my brows. I read on the internet that the Hema brow pencil was amazing and I bought a powder by Catrice. Until now those two products have been the only products I have ever used on my brows on a daily basis. But when I went to Boots and I saw the Maybelline Brow Satin thingy and I decided to buy it everything changed. Today it’s time for me to review this baby and tell you guys why everything changed like that. If you’re interested in finding out, keep on reading!
The Maybelline Brow Satin is a very unique product. On one end you have the pencil and on the other end you’ll find a spongy thing which is dipped in a powder. The powder which it is dipped in is inside the lid, so when you take the lid off, at a certain point it will kind op jump off the product. The first time I used it I had no idea that there was a sponge included in general, I thought that part was made for twisting the pencil up. So when I twisted it and the lid sprang off I was kind of in shock about what was happening.
I do have to say that I like the fact that it comes with a pencil and a powder like that instead of a pencil and a spoolie. Okay, a spoolie is useful when doing your eyebrows, but I’d rather have this powder than a spoolie.
Let’s start off with the pencil side. The pencil is twistable and not like any other brow pencil I have used before. The ones I used before were all like real pencils and had a bit of a dry texture, while this one is a lot more waxy and easier to use. I really like that about it. I also feel like that because of the fact this one is a lot more waxy, it’s not as harsh. When you do your brows you won’t end up with harsh strokes whatsoever, instead you’ll end up with natural looking, but taken care of brows. I like that look.
Color wise this pencil is perfect for me. I’ve honestly never used anything this close to my brow color. The color I bought is called “Medium Brown”. It’s quite ashy and not red at all and it’s perfect for girls (or boys of course) with light to medium brown hair like me. It’s literally the perfect match. I feel like ever since I started using this product my brows have never looked too much or over drawn and I love that.
The powder side is actually my favorite side. First off all because it’s unique and innovative. I’ve never seen anything like this before. Before I used this pencil I used to use a separate brow pencil and powder and to apply the powder I used a brush. The color of the powders in the little kit thingy where both not really the color I needed so I mixed them, but I always felt like it was impossible to get the exact shade I needed. Because this product is already in the perfect shade for my brows, I won’t ever have to worry about that any more.
But, the main reason why I love this powder so much is because the application is just perfect. The sponge is shaped perfectly and makes it possible for me to apply my brow power in a very natural but effective way. I use brow pencil and powder because I feel like the pencil is too harsh on its own and the powder isn’t enough on its own. And this powder does exactly what I want my powder to do. It smoothens the pencil I applied before, which makes my brows look a lot more natural and it adds that extra bit of color to make everything look even.
I also wanted to include a picture of my brows when I filled them in using this product. To me, this is the perfect brow. It’s not super tight and perfect, It still has some sparse areas, but to me that is what makes it perfect. Real brows aren’t perfect, don’t have sharp edges and aren’t equally as hairy in all areas. I like my brows to look real, to look natural and I feel like that is just what this product does for me.
Over all I think the Maybelline Brow Satin is perfect. It’s perfect for me and I’ll never go back to the products I used before. I even bought a back up of it already. I think the color is perfect, I love the texture of the pencil and I’m obsessed with the sponge. I’m pretty sure this is the most fool proof eyebrow product you’ll ever find and I love it. I highly recommend it to everybody!
The Maybelline Brow Satin Smoothing Duo Brow Pencil & Filling Powder is available at Boots/Superdrug for £5,99 and at drugstores like Kruidvat/Etos for €11,99.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know which brow product you love using the most!
