All year round I struggle with keeping my oily skin under control. I have tried so many different mattifying products. From skin care to makeup, but I still haven’t found something that keeps me from getting oily all day. I read a few mixed reviews about this Rimmel Stay Matte foundation and I ended up wanting to try it out. After thinking about it for a while I decided to give it a go. Today I’m going to be reviewing it. If you’re interested in finding out whether I like it or not and whether this is my holy grail for oily skin or not, keep on reading!
The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation comes in a tube. The packaging is white with purple and skin color and you can’t look through it. The thing that makes this foundation a lot more special than other foundations is the texture. The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation isn’t your normal liquid foundation, it’s a liquid mousse. I personally prefer liquid foundations over mousse foundations, since those tend to be pretty cakey, but the combination seemed interesting to me.
The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation promises to be lightweight and to keep the oiliness under control. Because it’s a mousse foundation I didn’t expect it to actually be lightweight and I ended up being right. The foundation itself is pretty thick. You could compare it to the texture of chocolate mousse. It’s not super, super thick but it’s not thin either. The Rimmel Stay Matte foundation is therefore definitely a foundation you can feel on your skin, but the special thing about it is, is that that heaviness goes away after a few minutes.
I do have to say that I think the reason why you don’t feel it on your skin as much any more after a while is because the oils on my skin just absorb it or something like that. So if you don’t actually have oily skin, this foundation could end up being pretty heavy.
When you apply the foundation, it will look a tad bit cakey at first. And again, because I’m super oily that cakeyness goes away within minutes, but if you’re not that oily it could stay. So I think the main thing you should keep in mind when you’re considering to buy this foundation is: “do I really have oily skin?”. If the answer is no, don’t buy it. You’re going to hate it. It’s going to look cakey and it’s going to feel heavy on the skin. If your answer is yes, then go for it. You could just end up loving it.
When it comes to the coverage I’m pretty positive. This foundation covers up any imperfections and unevenness I may have. It perfectly evens out the skin like any other foundation would do. I really like the look of it. It just needs a few minutes in order to look the best it can.
But, the most important thing is, does it keep me matte all day? I do have to be honest and answer that question with no. I have pretty oily skin. My nose and my chin are horrible, but my forehead and cheeks are not that great either. When you compare the amount of oils on my skin when I use this foundation to when I use another foundation you can definitely tell that there is a big difference. But it just doesn’t keep me matte all day.
But to be honest, I’m not let down at all. Even though it’s not the easiest foundation to use, I do really like using it. It does need its time to look good and it doesn’t keep me matte all day. But it does keep me a lot matter than I would be if I didn’t use this foundation. There is definitely a noticeable difference and I love that about it. Besides that I’m also impressed by the coverage and the lasting power is insane.
So if you’re struggling with oily skin, I highly recommend giving this foundation a try. But if not, you should definitely skip it.
The Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation is available at the drugstore for €10,99/£5,99.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know which foundation is your holy grail!

Jammer dat hij je huid niet matt houdt de hele dag, maar gelukkig doet hij het al beter dan andere foundations! Ben wel benieuwd geworden hoe hij er op het gezicht eruit ziet. 🙂
