BarryM Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paints

Throughout the years I’ve read so many good things about the BarryM nail polishes. The colors looked amazing, they are pretty affordable and I personally really liked the look of the packagings. When I went to London I decided to buy three of their nail polishes, just to see if they are actually as good as everybody claims they are. Today I’m going to be reviewing them. All three nail polishes I’m going to be reviewing today are from the Gelly Hi Shine range by BarryM. According to BarryM this means that they have an extra glossy finish. I personally really like the look of that, which is why I decided to buy three polishes from this range. Packaging wise the Gelly Hi Shine polishes are only a bit different from the polishes from the normal range. The difference is the lid. The polishes from the normal range have a black lid and these have shiny silver lids.

The first color I’m going to talk about is called Green Berry. Green Berry is a very pretty kind of unique mint color. On the picture it looks like Green Berry has quite a lot of blue to it, but in real life it’s a lot more green. I think it’s unique because it’s not your typical mint color. This has a lot more green to it. I actually think it’s best described as a combination between mint and turquoise. I really like it!

When I applied it I was kind of disappointed. At first it looked good. The coverage is fine and it applied pretty easily. But when it dried bubbles appeared all over my nails. I didn’t really know why. Maybe it’s because I applied too thick layers, because I didn’t shake it before use which it said you had to or because I didn’t let the layers dry good enough before applying a new coat, but I didn’t like the look of it.

The second color I bought is called Damson. Damson is a very pretty royal blue color. A while ago I would have never bought a color like this. I thought they weren’t really my thing and I didn’t expect them to look really good on me. But after using the color Tidal Wave from the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel range I fell in love. This color is slightly different than Tidal Wave, it’s a tad bit lighter and the finish is kind of different, but it’s still a very pretty royal blue.

Before applying the polishes I didn’t read about what BarryM claimed these polishes should do, just so I would be able to form an opinion based on my experience without comparing my experience to what they promised. But after testing them I was quite curious what BarryM said about these polishes. I have to say it was a little difficult to find out because it doesn’t say anything on the bottle and on their own site, but on the Asos site I found some of the claims. It says that the BarryM Gelly Hi Shine Nail Polishes have a chip resistant formula, that they are highly pigmented and that they give a glossy gel like finish within one coat.

The highly pigmented part is clearly not a lie. You can tell from the picture that the nail polishes has full coverage and that within two coats of polish which is normal. However the glossy gel like finish within one coat is a lie. After applying one coat the coverage is pretty disappointing and not even at all. There is no such thing as a gel like finish at that point. To create that finish you will definitely need one coat.

As I mentioned I had quite some struggles with Green Berry, I had all kinds of bubbles all over my nails after it dried. I thought it might have something to do with the way I applied it and with the fact that I didn’t shake the bottle before use which it does recommend. Therefore I decided to chance my way of application and shake the bottle before use. But it sadly didn’t change anything. On the picture it’s not really clear because the swatches are taking right after application, but there were in fact bubbles.

The last color is the most unique one. It’s called Sugar Plum and it’s a very pretty pinky purple color. It’s pretty special and I don’t have anything like this yet. Because the other two polishes were quite disappointing already I didn’t have high hopes for this one. It’s sad because it’s such a pretty color, but if it’s not good, it’s just not good.

When it comes to nail polishes one of the most important things to me is the lasting power. Because these polishes claim to be like gel nail polishes and because the Asos website tells us these polishes have a chip resistant formula I did have quite high expectations on that part. Sadly I was let down. The staying power is by far the most disappointing feature when it comes to these polishes. They didn’t even stay on my nails for a full day. That’s just sad..

When it comes to the coverage I was once again pretty positive. The polish covered perfectly within one coat and the finish looked really pretty to me. But once again I struggled with the bubbled all over my nails which really ruined the over all look of my nails. I really don’t know what I did wrong. I tried three different ways of applying the polishes and I did everything i could to make it look good, but in the end it just didn’t turn out pretty at all.

Over all I’m pretty disappointed when it comes to the BarryM Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paints. I had pretty high expectations when I bought the polishes and I was so excited to try them, but in the end the only good thing about them is the coverage and that’s it. Too bad!
