As an oily skin girl, foundations (and all other skin products) that promise to be mattifying attract my attention. So did the I Heart Makeup No Shine Please Matte Foundation. Because it was super affordable and claimed to be mattifying I decided to take it with me and just give it a try. Because I had a lot of new foundations I wanted to test it did take me a while, but today it’s finally time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this foundation, keep on reading!
First things first, the packaging. I wouldn’t say I absolutely hate it, but it’s not far from that. Okay, okay, I like the fact that it’s a tube, since that’s pretty hygienic, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t like the fact that it’s made out of a really annoying black material that gets dirty super quickly and I absolutely hate the shiny pink/purple letters on it. I just think it looks childish and like you got it from a toy store. Nope, it’s definitely not my cup of tea.
On the packaging itself I Heart Makeup doesn’t give us too much information about this product. All it says is “No Shine Please!” and “Totally matte for up to 16 hours”. After a minute of searching I found out a little more about this foundation and what it promises. On the Superdrug site it says the following:
“Rely on us to stop the shine! Lightweight mattifying formulation. Allows you to build, without caking, to the desired coverage and Stop The Shine!”
The promises they make are quite promising and big, and honestly I’m a little sceptical about them..
Let’s start off with the mattifying part, the most important part. A mattifying foundation, to me, is a foundation that has a really matte finish to it and that stays matte throughout the day. This foundation is not like that at all. It’s true that it doesn’t have a shiny or dewy finish to it, but the finish isn’t matte either. I honestly can’t even come up with a word that describes the finish of this foundation. But I’m sure that it isn’t matte.
Keeping my skin shine free is another point this foundation failed at. Compared to other foundations, even the ones that don’t even claim to be mattifying, this foundation isn’t too amazing at keeping me oil free throughout the day, or at least reducing the oil. I feel like it does literally nothing for me on that part.
And lastly, the texture. When you look at it, it seems like a pretty nice texture. It’s fluid, looks easy to blend and doesn’t look cakey at all. Until you try to blend it. I have experienced this with a few other budget foundations as well, and it’s horrible. When you try to blend it the foundation gets really sticky. It’s hard to even blend it, let alone blend it out evenly. Nope, it ain’t pretty.
I think I made it pretty clear that this foundation isn’t the one for me. The mattifying part is basically one big lie and the texture is just horrible. If the texture wasn’t as bad I think I would have used it every now and then, but sadly that’s not the case.
The I Heart Makeup No Shine Please! Foundation is available at Superdrug and online for £1,99
That was it for today. I’m sorry about the negativity in this review, but for me this foundation was really a dud. I was sceptical about it but I didn’t expect it to be this bad at all. I hope that despite the negativity you still enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know which mattifying foundation you do like!
Wat een leuke naam, maar jammer dat je er echt niet over te spreken bent. Als ze een mat effect beloven vind ik het echt heel erg tegenvallen als dat niet het geval is!
XOXO esmee

I have had the same experience with foundations that claim to be mattifying but they dont have a matte finish but rather have a satin finish :$
