When I Heart Makeup was pretty new I was super excited to try a lot of products from that brand. Everyone was positive and excited and I really wanted to know what the fuzz was all about. After testing quite a few of their products and finding out it wasn’t as amazing as I expected I kind of lost hope. Even though I lost hope, I still decided to try another one of their products, the #Selfie palette. If you’re interested in finding whether this disappointed me as much as most I Heart Makeup products did or not, keep on reading!
The palette comes in a small rectangular packaging. The front has this 3D effect going on (which yo can’t really tell from the picture) and says #Selfie. Besides the eyeshadows themselves, you also get an eyeshadow primer when you buy this palette. This primer has a very pretty colour and a nice texture. It’s not too special, but I do like using it to be honest.
The #Selfie palette contains 10 different colours of eyeshadow, both matte and shimmery shades. I think they did a pretty good job when it comes to finding a balance between matte and shimmery eyeshadows. This way this palette is perfect for basically everyone.
The colours that come in this palette kind of remind me of the Urban Decay Naked 1 palette. Not all of them, but most of them are pretty similar. Because I love the Naked 1 palette a lot I don’t mind that at all, but I thought it might be fun to know. Most shadows in the palette are pretty neutral. The majority of the shadows are either brown, gold or champagne coloured. The only two colours that don’t really fit in are the blue and the darker blue colours. But it’s nice that they are in here, for those days you’re feeling a little extra funky.
One of the main reasons why I usually prefer higher end eyeshadows is because more affordable eyeshadows tend to be a bit powdery. The fact that they are powdery isn’t always a bad thing, I don’t feel like it makes application a lot more difficult, but it does get a little messy after a while.
This palette is like that too. It’s very clear that these shadows are pretty powdery. I do think that quality wise they look pretty good, they’re highly pigmented and some of the colours have actually a pretty smooth and velvelty finish to them, but most of them are just plain powdery and I do think that’s a little disappointing.
But over all, I’m not as disappointed in this palette as I expected. I expected it to be another dud, but honestly, it’s pretty good. Okay, the shadows are quite powdery, but for the amount of money you pay for this palette I think you can’t complain. I like it!
The I Heart Makeup #Selfie Palette is available at Superdrug, Kruidvat and online for €5,99/£4,99.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know if you have tried any of I Heart Makeup’s eyeshadow palettes yet!
