Maybelline Color Tattoo Creamy Mattes

Maybelline Color Tattoo Creamy Matte Packaging

For a while now I have been on the hunt for a matte creamy eyeshadow to use underneath my eyeshadow. For years I’ve been a huge fan of the P2 creamy eyeshadows and the Maybelline Color Tattoo’s, but all of them were colourful and shimmery. Then, a few weeks ago, I came across a new Maybelline Color Tattoo range called “Creamy Mattes”. It was everything I was looking for and more so I decided to buy one and give it a try. Today it’s time for me to review it. If you’re interested, keep on reading!

The product comes in the same packaging as all the other Maybelline Color Tattoo’s do. It’s a glass jar with a black lid covered in a sticker which is in the same colour as the product. I do like the look of the packaging, but it’s not outstandingly gorgeous. It’s just fine.

The Creamy Mattes collection consists out of two matte colours. One is called “Crème De Nude”, which is a creamy shade with a yellow undertone and the other one, the one I have, is called “Crème De Rose” which has a more pinky undertone. Both colours are absolutely gorgeous, but since I’m not used to using matte cream shadows I wanted to start off with trying one of the colours. If I would end up not liking it, it wouldn’t be such a waste of money.

As you can tell, Crème De Rose is a pretty cool toned colour. I would describe the colour as a skin tone colour with a pink undertone. I normally prefer warm toned products, so it would be much more logical if I would have bought the other version, but for some reason I gravitated more towards this one.

One of the main reasons why I ended up buying one of the Creamy Matte’s is because I have read online that these two Color Tattoo’s are dupes for the MAC Paint Pots in Painterly and Soft Ocre. Crème De Rose, which is the one I have is a dupe for Painterly and the other one for Soft Ocre. I don’t have any of the MAC Paint Pots so I can’t compare them for you, but the day I get one, I will write a comparison for you guys!

The reason why I love using cream shadows underneath my eyeshadow is because it makes my shadows stay in place longer and it intensifies the colours. As I mentioned before, I used to use shimmery cream shadows only, which works great for that purpose as well, but that does interfere with  the colour of the shadow you put on top of it. With a creamy matte shadow like this one, which colour wise isn’t as strong, the colour you’ll put on top will look a lot more like itself, instead of like a mixture between itself and the cream shadow.

When it comes to that, I can tell you, I’m not disappointed at all. With some shadows I still prefer using a stronger colour because I like the look of the combination, but some shadows look way prettier in combination with this cream shadow underneath.

The colour of the cream shadow is, as you can tell, pretty nude. It’s matte and it’s slightly more pink and a bit darker than my natural skin tone. Because it’s like that it does a great job when it comes to evening out the eyelids, so you have the perfect base for a gorgeous eye look. If you want this product because of its colour, I wouldn’t recommend it since, once applied and blended a little bit, the colour doesn’t really show up any more. But if you want to use it for the same reasons as I do, kind of like an eyeshadow primer, it’s definitely a hit.

When it comes to extending the staying power of your eyeshadows, this Maybelline Color Tattoo is just as amazing as all other Color Tattoo’s I’ve tried. It’s one of the best cream shadows out there when it comes to that. The only downside is that the product itself is pretty dry, and it dries out pretty quickly. When it’s a little dried out you can still use it, but it takes a little more effort than it should.

But over all, despite the minor downside, I think this Color Tattoo is a hit. I love that I can have the benefits of a cream shadow without the cream shadow interfering with the powder shadow I put on top. I really like how it extends the staying power and I love how intense my shadows look when I use this underneath. I honestly think this is one of the best cream shadows out there, and I highly recommend it!

The Maybelline Color Tattoo is available at the drugstore for €9,99.

That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know if you like using cream shadows underneath your powder shadows too!
