It has been quite a while since I last used a Catrice foundation. About 5 years to be exact. The reason why? I just don’t like the texture of their foundations and I just have better ones. Even though I’m clearly not a fan of Catrice foundations, I did really want to try their newest one, the Catrice Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation, mainly because it comes in a shade lighter than usual, and I was pretty excited about that. Today I’m going to be reviewing the foundation. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not I have changed my mind about Catrice foundations after trying this one, keep on reading!
The Catrice Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation comes in a matte glass bottle with a pump. Most of the Catrice foundations have packagings like this or at least in the same style. I do like it. Because it feels pretty heavy it does feel pretty luxurious and I like that the glass is matte because it adds something extra to the over all look of it. Besides that I’m always happy to see a pump, so I’m glad this foundation comes with one too.
As I mentioned already this foundation comes in one shade lighter than all other Catrice products in the history of Catrice Cosmetics. I am so excited about that because their lightest shade was always a tad bit too dark. It was okay to wear, but it wasn’t a perfect match. I’m so glad they finally added a lighter shade. This shade matches me perfectly and I love that.
Normally, when I buy a foundation, I look at what it claims to do, if it’s mattifying and things like that. This time I didn’t, just because I was way too excited about the shade to worry about anything else. But, when I got home I did decide to read what it is supposed to do. This is what it says on the front:
- Creates a more even skin tone over time
- Instantly covers imperfections
- For a more beautiful skin
- Dermatologically proven
It all sounds very promising and impressive. Especially the “creates a more even skin tone over time” claim. I was a little sceptical about that and I decided to read what it said on the back. This is what I found:
“The longlasting and caring foundation creates evidentially a visibly more even skin tone. It instantly covers dark spots, imperfections and redness and reveals a radiant matt finish. After 8 weeks already, it visibly brightens dark spots – clinically proven*. For more beautiful and healthy looking radiant skin. SPF 25.
* Study with 28 women over 12 weeks in daily usage.”
There it is already, 12 weeks in daily usage. In other words, you’ll probably not notice any difference. I mean, who uses foundation every single day for 12 weeks and, for the makeup lovers upon us, who uses the SAME foundation for 12 weeks straight? At least I don’t.
Even though the even skin tone claim is a big fail, there are some good things to this foundation. Let’s start off with SPF 25, that’s absolutely amazing. Even though it’s autumn/winter the sun is still shining and still ruining your skin, so it’s still important to wear SPF. Besides that this foundation does really create that even skin tone we all want. Even my mother noticed I was wearing a new foundation and complimented me on it. If she, as a non makeup user, notices it, well, that’s quite a big deal.
I also really like the look of the finish. The foundation isn’t matte, which is something I do usually prefer, but it’s not super dewy either. It’s natural looking and I like that about it.
The only thing I actually dislike about this foundation is the texture. Just like all other Catrice foundations I have tried, the consistency is pretty thick. You really have to take your time blending it in, unless you like having streaks of foundation all over your skin. But to be honest, when it’s blended it, it does look absolutely gorgeous.
I have to say that I actually really like this foundation. I’m pretty surprised by that myself since I’m really not that into Catrice foundations, but this one really changed the game for me. I like the fact that it’s light enough for my skin tone, I love the way it makes my skin look and I really like the finish. Even though Catrice is not as budget as they used to be any more, and I feel like their products are a little overpriced, I am glad I gave this foundation a chance. I highly recommend it if you’re on the hunt for a good foundation with decent coverage and a light colour.
The Catrice Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation is available at the drugstore for €7,59.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and let me know which ‘budget’ foundation you love!

[…] Catrice Even Skin Tone Beautifying Foundation – My first favourite is this foundation by Catrice. I bought it because it was the first budget foundation ever in a shade that is light enough for me, but I expected nothing. I usually don’t like the Catrice foundations at all, but this one really was a gamechanger for me. It smells really nice and it has great coverage, a gorgeous finish and it stays in place really nicely throughout the day. […]
