A few days before Christmas I received a very fun email from a girl called Minke. She emailed me that I won her give away, and that wasn’t just a regular give away, nope, she gave away a MAC lipstick in the shade Ruby Woo, which is pretty much the perfect Christmas lipstick. I was very excited about it and I was super excited to see how a colour like that would look on me. After wearing it all Christmas it’s time for the review. If you’re interested, keep on reading!
This MAC lipstick comes in the same packaging as all other MAC lipsticks do. It’s simple. classic and professional looking and I like it a lot. I think the shape of the lipstick is really nice and makes it easier to apply the lipstick. I also like how sturdy the packaging is, that really adds something to that luxurious experience.
At this very moment I have a total of 6 MAC lipsticks, including this one. All of them are either cremesheens, lustre’s or frosts, but none of them have a matte finish. That because I personally don’t like the feeling of matte lipstick at all. I like the benefits of it and I like the look of it, but it just feels like your lips are made out of paper and that’s just not a feeling I’d go for on a daily basis.
Even though matte finishes aren’t really my cup of tea, I was really excited to try this lipstick. That because first of all the colour is absolutely stunning and second of all I just wanted to give matte lipsticks a try. Before I jump into my experiences with the matte finish, I want to start this review off by discussing the colour and by taking a closer look at it.
Ruby Woo is one of MAC’s most popular red lipsticks. It’s a gorgeous bright red colour with a blue undertone. Red lipsticks with blue undertones are my favourite because they are really bright and fun and they won’t make your teeth appear more yellow than they are. Aside from that I think reds like that just suit me a little better.
So, enough about the colour and back to the matte finish. I have to say I was kind of surprised by the way this lipstick felt on the lips. I expected it to be dry, but I didn’t expect it to be this dry. It literally felt like my lips were made out of paper. And even though that isn’t the best feeling in the world, I didn’t mind it as much as I expected. Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer the feeling of creamy lipsticks, but it was too bad.
The only downside to this super dry texture is that it was quite a pain in the ass to apply. This lipstick definitely requires some precision and time. It’s definitely not the kind of lipstick you can just apply without a mirror in just a few seconds. I really needed to take my time for it.
The great thing about it however is that it did stay in place all day. The staying power is not as amazing as the staying power of liquid lipsticks, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. It did transfer a little bit onto the things I touched with my lips while wearing it, but it definitely wasn’t as bad as creamy lipsticks would be.
Pigmentation wise Ruby Woo is amazing. It’s a super pigmented and intense lipstick that really adds that pop of colour to your face. I absolutely love the way it looks. It really brightens my entire complexion and it makes you look really put together, even if you’re wearing a minimal amount of makeup. So in other words: this is the perfect lipstick for those days you really don’t feel like doing your makeup but you do need to look really put together. Just apply this, apply some mascara and fill in your brows and you’re good to go.
Overall I’m really liking this lipstick. I’m not in love with the way it feels on the lips, but that is pretty much the only thing I kind of dislike about it. Aside from that I think it’s one of the best and by far one of the prettiest lipsticks I own and I love wearing it. I usually never really wear bright lip colours, so I’m glad I now have this one so I can change my lip game up every now and then. I love it! Thanks a lot Minke for giving away this lipstick! I really love wearing it, thanks for giving me the opportunity!

Wauw, dit is echt dé perfecte klassiek rode kleur. Helaas ben ik van mening dat die knalrode kleur mij niet zo mooi staat, maar dit is wel echt een pracht exemplaar!
