December 1st the new Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani palette was launched. In my opinion it’s one of the prettiest palettes Urban Decay has ever created. It comes with a total of 15 different shades of eyeshadow, 12 of which are completely new. Because I’m a huge fan of the Urban Decay eyeshadows I decided to order this gorgeous palette and today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani palette is worth the money, keep on reading!
The Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani palette comes in a super pretty golden box. It’s very pretty and shiny and I really like it. When you open it up you’ll find the palette as well as four lipstick samples from the new Gwen Stefani lipsticks, which, I believe, are not launched yet.
The palette itself looks absolutely stunning. It’s quite heavy and has a magnetic closing which makes it feel very luxurious and professional. The front is decorated with black dots, a little UD Gwen Stefani logo thiny and has golden edges. I think, packaging wise, this is the prettiest palette Urban Decay has ever created. I absolutely love it.
Another fun little detail regarding the packaging is that in the bottom right corner of the huge mirror which is inside the lid it says “Magic’s In The Makeup”, which is, I believe, a reference to a Gwen Stefani song. I really like that they did that. Even though it’s such a small thing, it does add something to the overall look of the packaging.
The names of most of the eyeshadows are also references to Gwen Stefani’s work and/or life. I really like that she did that, it gives it a more personal feel. Personally I have never really been a huge fan of Gwen Stefani’s music, but I still really like this about the palette. I can imagine that if you are a huge Gwen Stefani fan, this might be even more amazing.
The Gwen Stefani palette consists out of mainly nude eyeshadows. Only three of them are definitely not nude. I do like that about this palette, because it allows you to create either a super natural everyday eye look, but also a more fun and colourful eye look. Even though I’ll probably never use them, I don’t mind the fact that they are in here.
As I mentioned before the palette consists out of 15 eyeshadows. Twelve of which are completely new and three of which aren’t. The three colours that aren’t new are Blackout, which is a deep matte black shade which you can find in the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette, but it’s also available separately, Skimp, which you can find in the Naked 2 Basics palette and Stark, which you can find in the Naked 2 Basics Palette as well.
The other twelve eyeshadows are completely new and very, very pretty. About half of the eyeshadows in this palette are matte and the other ones are shimmery. I really like the balance because this way there are colours in here for everybody, whether you prefer shimmery eyeshadow, matte eyeshadow or a combination of both, you can do whatever you want with this palette.
As usual the texture of the eyeshadows is really amazing. Well amazing is actually an understatement, it’s just incredible. The eyeshadows are extremely smooth and silky, especially the matte ones are absolutely amazing. They’re also super nice to work with. They blend nicely, but not too easily and they are extremely intense. I really like the quality of the Urban Decay eyeshadows and they definitely didn’t disappoint me this time!
Now we discussed pretty much everything about this palette, it’s time to discuss the colours themselves, one by one.
Blonde – Baby is a very special highlighting shade. It’s a bit of an off-white colour with a teeny tiny bit of shimmer to it. It’s really pretty for underneath the eyebrows and in the inner corners, but it’s also a perfect all over lid shade.
Bathwater – Bathwater is a shimmery goldeny champagne colour. This one is perfect for all over your eyelid, but it could also be used as an inner corner highlight.
Skimp – Skimp is my favourite highlighter in this palette. It’s a bit more pink than Blonde is and it again has that teeny tiny bit of shimmer to it.
Steady – Steady is a bronzy champagne colour which is perfect for both all over the lid as well as in the crease. It’s one of my favourite shadows in this palette.
Punk – Punk is my favourite crease colour in this palette. It’s a gorgeous deep dark matte brown shade with a bit of a purply undertone. It’s absolutely stunning.
Baby – Baby is kind of similar to Steady, but it’s a bit less orangy. It’s again perfect for all over the eyelid as well as for in the crease.
Anaheim – Anaheim is a very pretty medium brown shade and to me, the perfect transition colour.
Stark – Stark is a bit of a strange colour. It’s a more skintone colour. I would use this as either a highlight underneath my brows or as a transition colour if I want to create a very soft look.
Zone – Zone is pretty similar to Anaheim. It’s a bit warmer, but aside from that it’s pretty much the same thing.
Serious – Serious is a gorgeous shimmery grey colour with a bit of brown to it. It’s a lot more grey than a taupe colour would be, but it’s definitely not just grey.
Pop – Pop is a super pretty glittery champagne colour with a bit of a peachy undertone. It’s very glittery and perfect for all over the eyelid.
Harajuku – Harajuku is one of the more colourful colours in this palette. It’s a shimmery bright pink shade which I think is absolutely gorgeous.
Danger – Danger is a very pretty shimmery bright blue shade. It’s incredibly pigmented and has a really nice feel to it.
1987 – 1987 is a shimmery golden shade with a pretty bright yellow undertone. To me it’s a bit too yellow to act as a regular everyday golden eyeshadow, but it is really pretty.
Blackout – And lastly, Blackout. Blackout is the prettiest and deepest matte black I have ever seen. It’s absolutely amazing!
Blonde – Bathwater – Skimp – Steady – Punk
Baby – Anaheim – Stark – Zone – Serious
Pop – Harajuku – Danger – 1987 – Blackout
As some of you might know I’m not the best at taking swatch pictures, but for me this went pretty well. I do have to say that in real life the lighter colours are a lot more intense than they appear on the picture, but aside from that the pictures are a pretty accurate representation of how pigmented these eyeshadows are.
And I have to say, I’m impressed. Literally every single eyeshadow in this palette is incredibly pigmented, from the matte to the shimmery shades and even the super glittery shade, Pop, everything is just super pigmented. Urban Decay is just the queen when it comes to making pigmented eyeshadows, I love it.
Overall I think it’s no secret that I’m in love with the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette. Ever since I saw it online I have been in love, and I still am. I absolutely love the shades that are in this palette, I think the names of the shadows are super adorable and fun, the packaging is amazing and the quality of these eyeshadows is just incredible. I really honestly think this is the best eyeshadow palette in the world. I absolutely love it and I highly recommend it!
The Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette is available at Iciparis XL for €52 and at Feelunique for €56,40.
